概要

Inconel 600 alloy, Ni base alloy, and SUS304 steel, austenitic stainless steel, are used for steam generators tubing, pressure vessel, etc. due to its high strength and high corrosion resistance. Stress corrosion cracking is attributed to sensitization at grain boundary occurs and it causes failures in plants. Though these alloys are paramagnet, they transforms into ferromagnetic along grain boundaries when sensitization occurs. Therefore nondestructive evaluation using magnetic measurement for sensitization will be possible. Here, Inconel 600 alloys and SUS304 were heat treated to generate sensitization and then their magnetic properties were investigated. Saturation magnetization increases with increasing heat treatment and takes a maximum for Inconel alloy, while magnetization increases monotonically for SUS304 steel. As a trial for industrial application, heat treated Inconel 600 alloy and SUS304 steel were scanned by a magnetic field sensor nondestructively. The leakage magnetic flux change was consistent with that of magnetization. The results indicate a feasibility of magnetic NDE for sensitization of Inconel 600 alloy and SUS304 steel.
