Since the Fukushima Dai-ichi accident, the importance of “system safety'' has been recognized anew. Particularly, system safety assessment of plants in operation from the various degradation perspectives, specifically, transition of time is very important. Accordingly, functional degradation will be the assessment target of degradation, and the changes in the safety standards and the concept of safety will be dealt with; where, the reliability assessment will be made on the consolidation of important functions under a system, and not on individual components.The boundary function of the system will be one of the focus in this study. For the purpose of reliability assessment on the syst em by evaluating and quantifying the damage risk of piping ? method for confirm g the soundness of the sysystem through the assessment on the damage risk of the system when an external force caused by an earthquake is applied was examined on the basis of the damage prediction results for each of the parts in piping system. The prediction results will be verified by tests, whereby, the improvement in reliability will be confirmed, and a combined assessment will be made in relation to the degradation factors of other systems. “System safety assessment method of plants in operation will be developed in a manner where a comprehensive assessment on the safety of the entire plant can be made.
