概要

Carbon fiber-reinforced plastics (CFRP), which is expected to reduce the weight or increase the efficiency of transportations and energy products, was cut by an CO2 gas laser (10.6um, 800W, 20kHz, 8us, 1m/min), CW single-m ode fiber laser (1.07um, 300W, 2000W, CW single-mode, 1m/min, 7m/min) and machining with milling. Although the high-power laser cutting processes make it possible to improve cutting rate of CFRP, the laser-cut specimens cl early showed a thermal damage with a heat-affected zone (HAZ) identified by micro X-ray CT. These specimens were lower tensile strength and fatigue strength than the milling-cut specimen. The Young's modulus in fatigue for laser-cut specimen exhibited large reduction to that of milling-cut specimen, depending on the crack propagation. The acoustic emission analysis was useful to measure the degradation and damage process during fatigue test.
