When developing a maintenance program to be able to provide optimal maintenance activities for a whole plant system, positive adhesion to a maintenance system in compliance with each piece of equipment, facility and degradation mode is not sufficient; it is necessary to reflect considerations about the importance of facilities and matching between failure mode and maintenance system, arrangement for renewal of system components, as well as various requirements for the plant including the design basis. This paper proposes a practical comprehensive methodology that systematizes the factors including importance-dependent classification of equipment, sampling of potential failure modes, clarification of maintenance policy and development of operation management standard so as to satisfy the above-mentioned requirements. The authors applied this proposal to the rotating equipment that is currently used in an actual nuclear plant in order to verify the relevancy of this proposal.
