A new inspection technique using AE (acoustic emission) sensor has been developed for the purpose of evaluating the integrity of steel rods and pipes, and sensitivity analyses were made for degradations of steel rods and pipes from a theoretical viewpoint. The Eigen frequency and modal frequency response analysis were conducted based on FEM (finite element method). Several peaks due to natural vibrations were observed in the frequency distribution calculated in this study, and comparisons with experimental results obtained from mockups with simulated degradations were reported.
