This paper proposes a quantitative evaluation method of maintenance plan for nuclear power plants, developed by introducing the scientific approach, and also proposes a method to search an optimum maintenance plan to be obtained by maximizing nuclear safety and economic efficiency simultaneously, then balancing them. As a result of consideration, the following results were obtained. (1) The quantitative evaluation methodology for optimizing maintenance plan for nuclear power plants was developed. (2) The computer simulation of maintenance planning for a couple of BWR systems by using this methodology was carried out. It was concluded that this methodology can produce a new maintenance plan which meets the maintenance targets corresponding to optimum maintenance.
