Abstract: Actions to be taken in maintenance of nuclear plants are normally various in its manner and complicated depending on components. Unless systematic views are introduced, it is very difficult to systematize mainte nance actions theoretically and to plan optimized maintenance schemes. The systematic views consist of essentials and variables, an assemble of principles, maintenance langue and maintenance parole, introduction of hierar chical structure, laws and boundary conditions determining maintenance phenomena, construction of maintenance equations etc. With keeping in mind these items, it is important to complete relevant technologies useful to ma intenance. At present, a framework of the fundamentals has been completed and the present stage is under construction of each technologies.
