Abstract Successive disasters in recent Japan have noticed us the necessities of turning the safety culture from concept level into practical activities level. Our efforts have been made to cover the weak points of doing safety activities: one is that safe ty is invisible, another is that knowledge relating safety can not be accumulated. A solution to previous one is obtained by using the Safety Assessment System we have developed as a effective tool to detect weak points at workplace from the point of views of individual safety awareness, safety management, and organizational climates and culture. A proposal to the latter defect is the Risk Assessment System to which all of the risk information could be collected in a database and those of accumulated informa tion could be utilized for promoting safety as proactive measures. In this paper, after introducing the summary of the Safety Assessment System, the contents and functions of the risk assessment system is mentioned with some typical results of applications.
